NBC will rebroadcast the late-night comedy program’s inaugural episode on Feb. 14 (11:30 p.m. ET/PT), one day before the primetime SNL 40th Anniversary Special (Feb. 15, 8 p.m. ET/PT). The three-hour show, which will be preceded by a red-carpet special, will feature cast members, past hosts and musical stars.
Comedian George Carlin hosted the first episode of the landmark series, then called NBC’s Saturday Night, on Oct. 11, 1975. Janis Ian and Billy Preston were the musical guests.
The show featured The Not Ready For Primetime Players, including Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner. They would go on to become household names.
