mardi gras makes way for lent

Wednesday marked the end of the Mardi Gras and the beggining of the much solemn season, compared to mardi gras everything is solemn, of Lenten. The New Orleans police roamed the city street on Wednesday night an annual ritual infroming the carnival goers that the fun filled party is over – Until next year, the cops were spotted saying to many of the revelers still on the street. Although the audience was almost the same as the previous years, this years Mardi Gras celebrations were spoiled by the rain and cold. The temprature in most of the areas in New Orleans was below 40 degrees and by the evening dropped to 38 degrees. Despite the rain many brave revelers took to the streests fashioning their costumes with rain proof kits and umbrellas. For others it was season of relaxing in the balcony while the watch the parade goers braving the cold and rain. Celebrated with flamboyant costumes, beads and parades the Mardi Grass festival in New Orleans begins in the month of Jan and end on the first day on Lent and it’s origins go back to the 1700’s. Many new traditions have been added as a part of the festival celebrations like Parades, Colourful Beads, Masks and the King Cake.
