Neighbours scores big on opening day

Neighbours has welcomed a $34.4 million from a day-and-date opening in 29 overseas territories that led the film to an estimated $85.5 million global debut.NEdYp9E27RYVhe_2_b

The comedy that stars Seth Rogen and Zac Efron opened at the No. 1 spot in 17 territories outside the United States that included Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Lebanon, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.K. and Ireland.

The U.K. added $1.7 million, which included previews, from 500 dates and was responsible for 36% of the weekend’s market share. Australia also impressed with a $7.1 million bow from 235 dates and a 46% market share. Germany posted a $5.9 million debut at 530 dates with 40% market share. The film will expand to 26 additional territories throughout the rest of the summer.

On Tuesday the movie grossed $4.84 million to lead the daily box office for the fifth consecutive day. The modestly budgeted comedy has increased 9% over Monday. The movie continues to post high results after going strong for five consecutive days and earned $58.31 million. The latest earnings puts the comedy 49% ahead of the $39.25 five-day take of 2007’s Seth Rogen starrer Knocked Up.
